Guide, do not interrogate
Bad cashiers interrogate. They ask, what protein, what spice, what toppings, what side, what drink. The answers six questions in a row, leaves feeling processed.
Great cashiers guide. They take a position. If it is your first time, the butter chicken and are our two most-ordered starting points. Then they ask one question, not six.
The interrogation feels like a form. The guide feels like a recommendation from a friend who eats here every day. We are the friend, not the form.
- Confirm protein every single time. Chicken? Paneer? Lamb? Vegan? Never assume.
- Confirm spice level. Only repeat back if it is spicy or desi hot. Medium is par, do not call it out.
- Watch the line. Move with urgency. Do not rush, but do not drift.
- Never turn your back on a at the counter. If you must step away, say, please excuse me one moment, I will be right back. Thank them for waiting when you return.
