HOW IT STARTED
On March 4, 2009, AK got an email from a family friend, Barbara Kim. The subject line was Article. The body said: AK, check out this article on a family friend of mine. He makes Korean-style on his own roach coach and is getting hella popular. I think it is time for you to open an Indian-style taco truck.
AK and Rana tested the idea in June. On July 11, 2009, they rented a truck called Kung Fu and served Indian street food at their daughter Aanvi's birthday party. They served 200 people. A few weeks later they bought their own truck. They launched Curry Up Now in Burlingame on September 26, 2009, AK's father's birthday. That is the story. A friend's email, a daughter's birthday, a father's birthday, a truck. The first Indian street food truck in the country.
