The Ten Little Things

+25 XP

Ten unrequested moves that turn a transaction into hospitality.

Ten signature moves that signal fine dining. None of them cost money. All of them cost about three seconds. Stack them across a shift and the experience compounds. Most fast casuals do zero of these. We do all ten.

1. Walk a first-timer to their tableDo not just point at table 7 from the counter. Walk them over, set down the table number, gesture: here you are. Three seconds. Reads as fine dining.
2. Bring water unpromptedWater is self-serve. But if a is loaded with bags, kids, or a phone call, grab two cups of water and walk them over. Three seconds. Reads as care.
3. Drop an extra napkin on a saucy dish, , sizzlin' kabab, : anything saucy. Drop two napkins, not one. Three seconds. Reads as anticipation.
4. Pre-bus within 60 secondsThe moment a plate is empty, take it. Do not wait for the next pass. Three seconds. Reads as attention.
5. Offer chai at the endWhen you sense the meal is winding down, ask: can I bring you a and Parle-G to close out? Three seconds. Reads as Indian hospitality.
6. Use the name at food drop and goodbyeIf you saw the name on the order or the card, use it once at food drop and once at goodbye. Three seconds. Reads as recognition.
7. Hold the doorIf a is walking toward the door with hands full, hold it. Three seconds. Reads as kindness.
8. Drop a small free thing if a wait runs longIf a ticket is past 12 minutes, walk a small , a , or a guava lemonade to the table on the house. Comp it on . Three seconds plus the comp. Reads as ownership.
9. Remember a regular's orderIf you have seen them before and remember what they ordered, say it. The usual? The decon, paneer, desi hot? Three seconds. Reads as family.
10. Walk the guest outOptional, only when the room is calm. Walk a first-timer or a special to the door. Three seconds. Reads as a host, not a cashier.
THE COMPOUND EFFECT

If every FOH team member does 5 of these 10 per shift, across 200 guests a day, that is 1000 little moments of hospitality a day, 7000 a week, 30,000 a month, 360,000 a year. That is what builds a brand that guests bring their friends to.
